Bollywood Mikado - Dress Rehearsal Nightmares

That's it the technical rehearsal where we work out where lights and lumps of sets interact with us, the people is finished.

We finished the dress rehearsal late last night and I got home at midnight.

After getting changed into the costume we all felt excited and ready to go. Plus we had some people who'd paid to watch the dress rehearsal!

Anyway, the first dance was a bit of a disaster because I'd not tied my trousers tightly enough and every time I leapt or hopped or jumped my trousers fell down. Good for a laugh but nil points for dancing.

I dashed off at a convenient point and did the draw string up more tightly and went back on. Almost unnoticed...

After that every dance went wrong for different people.

Then whilst waiting in the wings I was nearly run over by a massive gold elephant. I got prodded by a tusk and at least had the good sense to dive out of the way.

At the end of the night the notes we got from the director weren't too bad. Although the men and the women have to go through one of the routines again to make sure we're all doing the same things.

The Bollywood Mikado - On Valentine's Day At The RNCM in Manchester

Yes, we're galloping towards the dress rehearsal for the Bollywood Mikado at the Royal Northern College of Music.

My previous post about the Bollywood Mikado explains all about it, what it is, where it is and why you should go. And no it's not just because of the attractive girls. Or even the dashing men. It's going to be FUN with a capital F!

Thanks to Mark at Simply Networking for putting  a mention in his newsletter.

Also thanks to Rob for his post at his Artisan Marketing Communications blog where Rob suggests we forget Big Brother winner Shilpa and think of me as the star. Nice thought Rob - thanks! No pressure there then, even if I'm only in the chorus.

The only slight hiccup in rehearsal was finding that our set had grown so enormous that we had to act in a very small space, like a keyhole.

Cue one despairing director.  Fortunately with the goodwill and hard work of our vast army of talented crew we got the set back to normal (for Bollywood) proportions.

The Bollywood Mikado

It suddenly occurred to me that you probably don't know very 'Bollywoodmuch about my alternative existence. Yes I admit it I'm a closet "actor/singer". I take part in productions each year in Manchester with the Manchester University Gilbert & Sullivan Society, also known as MUGSS.

This year we're putting on a Bollywood version of The Mikado at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) which has an amazing theatre. Tailor made for musical fun!

The poster you see to the side is the one showing all the details of the show. One other thing we always use an orchestra for our shows.

I've been singing with this group for decades (gulp, that seems like a long time).

Every now and then you think a show is going to be fantastic. This is one of those times.

It's going to be great, the only pity is that I can't see it from the audience as well as be in it.

Still if I was in the audience I wouldn't get to do the amazing number of fun dances the men get to do!

By the way if you've seen Bride and Prejudice you may recognise one or two of the dance moves. Where the director got the others I don't know.

The show starts on Wednesday 14th February 2007. Valentine's day, is that a good day to open or not? It continues until Saturday 17th February.

Saturday matinee has a sign language translator dancing around on stage. Well maybe not literally, but we'll see if they get carried away by the bustle, hustle and frenzy of the production.

Tickets can be bought from the RNCM and concessions prices are £5 or £8 for Saturday night.

See you there...

SEO From The Coolest Guy On The Planet

Ok I'm not sure if I'm quite that cool just yet.

However, my Search Engine Optimisation blog is going nicely.

I've just added another post giving a few more tips on improving a web site's rankings in the search engine positions.

Obviously SEO copywriting is a sub-set of marketing.

The trouble is as we specialise and go into finer and finer detail it's easy to lose the plot and think SEO is the main reason for doing SEO!

As I never tire of telling my clients SEO is one pillar of the Internet marketing temple.

There are so many others.

Fail to use them and you're placing too much importance on one marketing tactic.

After all how do you know  that one day Google may pull the rug from under it with a completely new method of deciding popularity - like using human-based reviewing even more?

The post I've added to my SEO Blog notes that although you should concentrate on 20% of the things that payback big in for SEO you should also do the other 80% that incrementally build your ranking.

The same thinking applies to your marketing strategy. That is

Consider every tactic that applies to your company and web site. Decide what tactics give the most/best payback. Focus on them but keep the others going too.

Update: I just checked my position regarding whether I am the coolest guy on the planet and I've gone from 99th to 26th since 24th October 2006. So I'm getting there...

SEO Copywriting King Surfaces

I've had an invitation to join Blogger Beta for several months now.

But I haven't felt inclined to move to it because you can't move old postings or my tweaked template to it.

Finally I decided there are ways to get posts from Marketing for Power Packed Profits and anyway I could create another blog specifically about SEO Copywriting.

A subject that I know is dear to the heart of many an Internet user.

So I logged into my Blogger Beta account and was very pleasantly surprised to find some great improvements:

  • The ability to tag (or label) posts
  • The ability to show the labels on the side bar
  • The ability to drag and drop page elements, including Adsense
It's definitely an enormous leap forward for Blogger and I'm pleased to start using it.

The blog I've created is called SEO Copywriter King

So check out my first post and I'll see you there!

Do You Make These Search Engine Marketing Mistakes Too?

Search engine marketing and Internet marketing are two key phrases that generate enormous numbers of searches in Google, Yahoo, Overture and other search engines each month.

As just one example look at the US version of the Overture search engine. These are the monthly searches for marketing related keywords:

  1. Search Engine Marketing - 1,148,022 per month

  2. Marketing - 337,214

  3. Internet marketing - 283,868

  4. Email marketing 96,125

From that list you can see the steep difference in interest between search engine marketing and just marketing as key phrases.

Obviously people with web sites are more interested in search engine marketing to begin with. But do these figures reflect established web site companies or the number of companies waking up to the Internet and trying to get better visibility amongst the millions of pages?

Given the level of interest in search engine marketing and presumably search engine optimization it's useful to see this list of "Top 10 Mistakes With Search Engine Optimization" .
